Betty Puskar Breast Care Center (BPBCC) (JSA)
Volunteers help provide a friendly environment for patients and family members. Volunteers greet and escort patients to the dressing area, providing directions for gowning, and direct patients to the Solarium. Volunteers also assist with clerical duties such as copying, faxing, answering phones, and the retrieval of image jackets and patient visit cards.
Cancer ACS Resource Center (SA)
A Cancer Resource Center is a designated space in a cancer treatment facility where highly trained American Cancer Society volunteers are able to provide people facing cancer with one-on-one assistance. You can provide patients and caregivers with timely information, help and support as they manage their cancer journey. No experience is necessary. All you need is a warm heart, a desire to give back and some free time. We provide training and support.
Cheat Lake Physicians (JSA)
Volunteers will assist with clerical tasks such as copying, faxing, filing, answering phones, completing forms, chart prep, doing research, and running errands. Volunteer will help provide a friendly experience and efficient service to patients and family members at all times.
Child Development Center (CDC) (SA)
Volunteers assist teachers with daily activities such as interacting with children, reading to children, helping with projects, supervising play, playing games, etc.
Diversional Activity (SA)
Volunteers visit patients and provide diversional activities that promote social, communication and cognitive skills including pampering visits (hair care, nail care, make-up, etc.), distribution of magazines, books, puzzle books, etc.
Emergency Department (ED) (SA)
Volunteers assist the health care team by greeting patients, assisting with patient’s room assignments, communicating with families, and maintaining patient comfort while in the emergency room. Responsibilities also include delivering lab tests and assisting staff with the escort of patients for x-rays and tests, etc.
Gift Shop (JSA)
Volunteers assist customers in finding gifts, run the cash register, help with inventory, pricing, stocking and keeping the shop straightened. Gift Shop volunteers get an extra discount on purchases.
Health Information Management (HIM) (JSA)
Volunteers will assist with filing, typing, answering telephones, as well as other clerical duties in the Health Information Management Department. May be assigned special projects based on the number of hours volunteered.
Library (JSA)
Volunteers sort and organize magazines and books donated for patient and visitor use. Stock and straighten magazine waiting areas throughout the hospital. May take library cart to visit patients to offer reading materials. All volunteers can participate in this service by donating books and/or magazines.
Mail Service (JSA)
Volunteers obtain and sort patient mail; deliver to patients, and forward mail to discharged patients.
Medical Center Pharmacy (S)
Volunteers assist in the Pharmacy providing pharmaceutical care to all patients. Volunteers also assist the pharmacy technician by operating the cash register and in working with the pharmacist, reading physician orders, preparing and delivering medications, and preparation of sterile products. Applicants must have some cash handling experience and excellent communication skills. (Available only to Pre-Pharmacy majors.)
Morgue and Anatomic Pathology – (S)
Volunteers assist in the transport and release of the deceased. Volunteers also assist with Anatomic Pathology block and slide management as well as minor clerical functions. This is a shadowing position for purposes of understanding. Volunteers must be a pre-med college junior or senior. (Available only to college Juniors & Seniors interested in Medical School or in a forensics program.)
Newspaper Delivery (JSA)
Volunteers deliver complimentary newspapers to all in-house patients. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking for early morning exercise.
Occupational Therapy (OT) (S)
Volunteers observe occupational therapy treatment and learn how people become independent through the use of purposeful activities and equipment. Volunteers will also become involved with the daily clerical functions & responsibilities of the OT Department. (Available only to Pre-OT students.)
Office/Resource Volunteer (JSA)
Volunteers assist with filing, typing, answering telephones, as well as other clerical duties. Duties may also include delivering flowers, taking items to patient’s rooms, working on various projects as needed, sending out mailings, and packaging items for the Sterile Processing Department.
Physical Therapy (PT) (S)
Volunteers assist physical therapists in preparation and application of hot and cold packs, mobility of patients, assignment of equipment, preparation of treatment rooms, stocking supplies, running errands, etc. (Available only to Pre-PT students.)
Rosenbaum Family House (JSA)
Volunteers provide assistance to guests and departmental staff by registering guests, providing tours, escorting guests to their rooms, answering incoming calls, checking out guests, picking up & sorting mail and other clerical tasks.
Day Surgery Waiting Area (JSA)
Volunteers serve as a liaison between the operating and recovery rooms and patient’s family members. Using a surgery schedule volunteers will keep track of patients and their family members, explain the surgery process and guidelines of the department, escort family members to prep and recovery areas, and provide information.
Wii/Activity Volunteer – 9 East (JSA)
Volunteers will interact with patients by playing the Wii game as assistance in stroke rehabilitation.
WVU Children’s Hospital (SA)
Volunteers visit children; offering companionship by playing games, reading, making crafts, etc. Volunteers also assist Child Life Specialists with cleaning toys and maintaining the playroom and developing activities, etc.
