On-Site Services

To help make your hospital stay a little easier many services are available on site. From the FRIENDS gift shop to the Medical Center Pharmacy, we offer a variety of amenities for patients, family members, and visitors.

Cafeterias and Coffee Bar

The Cafeteria, located on Level 4, is open the following hours:

Monday through Friday
6:30 am - 10:30 am
11 am - 3:30 pm
4 pm- 8 pm
2 am - 4 am

Saturday and Sunday
6:30 am - 10:30 am
11 am - 3:30 pm
4 pm- 7 pm
2 am - 4 am

The Ruby Espresso Bar is open from 6:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday in the hospital's East Lobby. A vending machines area located near the Cafeteria is always open.

Chapel/Prayer and Meditation Room

The hospital Prayer and Meditation room, located on Level 1 of the Northeast Tower, is open 24 hours a day. An interfaith service is held at 11:30 am each Sunday morning on Skilled Nursing Unit, and 1 pm at Chestnut Ridge Center. Copies of the Bible and Qur'an are available on request.

Concierge/Information

Patient location and information can be obtained by calling 304-598-4400, or by checking at the information desk in the East Lobby, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

FRIENDS Gift Shop

The Gift Shop on Level 1 is operated by the Friends of West Virginia University Hospitals. The shop offers cards, stamps, flowers, magazines, snacks, personal care products, and gift items.

11 am to 5 pm

Lodging for Family Members of Patients

Both the Ronald McDonald House and Rosenbaum Family House provide "homes away from home" for families of patients. Family House is connected to Ruby Memorial Hospital and provides temporary lodging for adult patients and their families. Ronald McDonald House, located across the parking lot from the hospital, is an independent, non-profit organization that provides temporary lodging to families with children receiving hospital treatment. Medical Center Pharmacy

Our open to the public, full-service Medical Center Pharmacy is on the first floor of the Physician Office Center. It is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 6 pm, Saturday 10 am to 2 pm (closed football Saturdays). The pharmacy provides prescription services and accepts most insurance prescription plans. The pharmacy also carries a selection of over-the-counter medications and supplies.

A clinical pharmacist provides medication counseling, cholesterol testing, and osteoporosis screening. Call 304-598-4848.

FriendsCONNECT Wireless Internet Service

Computers with wireless capability can connect with the Internet from Ruby Memorial Hospital patient rooms, lobbies and waiting areas, the Ruby Cafeteria and Rosenbaum Family House. This service is free for WVU Healthcare patients and visitors. To connect:

  1. Turn on your laptop. (Windows XP)
  2. Open the Internet browser. FriendsConnect supports Internet Explorer.
  3. Your computer should detect and link to FriendsConnect automatically. If a list of wireless networks appears, choose “FriendsConnect.”

The FriendsConnect access page will appear first. Please read and accept the user agreement before proceeding. The hospital’s system has an Internet filter, so not all web sites will be available. If you have any difficulty with your Internet connection, please call 304-983-9378 Choose Option 1 for Internet Support (This number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week).

To prevent interference with medical devices, personal computer use is not permitted in the intensive care and step-down units, or in other areas where it may be a hazard. Check with a nurse before logging on if you are unsure. Please do not use any electrical device in the hospital if it has any damage to the casing, wiring or plug.
