Cardiac Rehabilitation At The WVU Heart Institute, our cardiac rehabilitation team works to help you resume your normal lifestyle as soon as possible following a heart problem. Members of the rehabilitation team can include the following: physician nurse physical therapist dietician social worker exercise physiologist psychologist education specialist chaplain occupational therapist vocational rehabilitation specialist This team uses an individualized approach to patient care. The rehab plan is customized to each patient's needs, and that plan is continuously evaluated. Cardiac rehabilitation is an integral part of the care offered for patients who have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, valve replacement, heart transplant, angina or angioplasty. Our providers also recognize the emotional burdens associated with heart attacks, such as depression, anxiety, fear, and anger. We often link rehab patients with a specialist from our mental health services to help them deal with the after-effects of their care. Nutrition plays an important part in keeping a heart healthy. Our physicians and dieticians can provide patients with healthy diet counseling and assessment. Our dietary recommendations are customized based on individual needs and preferences.
