Walmart, Sam’s Club kick off 2012 fundraising campaign for WVU Children’s Hospital, Children’s Miracle Network

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – On May 1, Walmart stores and distribution centers and Sam’s Clubs across the state and region kicked off their 2012 fundraising campaign for WVU Children’s Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network.

“Last year, this campaign raised more than $538,000, which is money we use to provide high quality care to every patient who walks through our doors,” Cheryl Jones, R.N., director of WVU Children’s Hospital, said. “We are so grateful to continue this partnership and look forward to extending it long into the future.”

While all stores will be fundraising at the cash registers, several stores are having their own events.

On June 2, Sam’s Club in Bluefield, Va., the top fundraising Sam’s Club in the nation last year, will be holding several events, including the Kids Fun Run, which will begin at 10 a.m. at Bluefield City Park.

The Some Kind of Wonderful Miracle Concert and Cookout will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2 at the Sam’s Club on Commerce Drive in Bluefield, Va. John Ellison, the singer/songwriter who penned and sang the song “Some Kind of Wonderful” as the lead singer of the Soul Brothers Six Band, will perform. Ellison, a West Virginia native, also owns the Some Kind of Wonderful Foods Company, which will provide the burgers to be served during the cookout.

Wrapping up the day is the Fishing for Miracles Tournament at the B&G Pro Shop and Sportsman’s Club in Bluefield, W.Va. The kid’s tournament is from 5 to 7 p.m. for $5 per pole, and the adult’s tournament is from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. for $10 per pole.

On June 9, the Morgantown Sam’s Club will conduct a golf scramble at Mountaineer Golf Course on Brand Road in Morgantown. The entry fee is $60 per person, which includes golf, lunch and cart rental. The scramble starts at 9 a.m. All proceeds go to WVU Children’s Hospital.
